Under a unified creative vision, Luis Montoya and Leslie Ortiz work as partners of an extraordinary talent. Together they demonstrate a nimble imagination and true originality. Fruits and vegetables of exaggerated scale, luscious form, magnified coloration and accentuated texture are the result of their accomplished collaboration under the nom d’art, Popliteo. Realized within the intense climate of the foundry, the bronze sculptures are the result of a unique division of labor. First conceived in clay, the initial forms are then translated to metal through a rigorous, physical process. Thereafter, the forms undergo detailing through welding, polishing, and a final patina layer to create the subtle and modulated coloration. The finished piece is a product of equal partnership and of a pure and radiant beauty.

Platters of overgrown mangos, blueberries, carrots and countless other organic delights combat with all of the senses in grand monumentality. Montoya and Ortiz offer a new magnitude to the sculptural measures of balance, shape and volume. Lusty and sumptuous, the tactile skins and voluptuous curves of their fruits and vegetables tempt our eyes and our palate with their glowing realism and visual perfection.
