Regina Saura
Current Exhibition August 14 - September 10 on view in San Francisco
“My work—creation—is a way of observing and experiencing life. Every image that strikes me is transferred to the canvas.”
A restless and curious creator if ever there was one, Regina has actively sought inspiration in places around the world such as Japan, Provence, and Mexico, the destination of her latest trip. Her most recent work bears witness to this: flowers that mark the passing of the seasons, nature in its maximum splendor, intense colors... everything is magical and poetic. As they say there: “while you wait for the best, don't forget to live.”

Biography
For Catalan painter Regina Saura, painting and living are two closely linked concepts. Her work is a reflection of her worldview, so everything around her is susceptible to being captured on canvas. The rural landscapes and Mediterranean coastline of her beloved Empordà, where she lives, have irrevocably permeated her work, which is also marked by her characteristic style that mixes vibrant colors with elements of collage, letters, and numbers.

As they say there: “while you wait for the best, don't forget to live.”
While her paintings bring to mind Fauvist artists like Matisse and Dufy, Saura is not overly influenced by any single style, reserving for herself a space of pure artistic freedom, childlike wonder, and spontaneity. The interplay of emotion and the natural world is a throughline in her practice, which often incorporates snippets of text, both handwritten and collaged, into landscapes that appear inflected by various moods, from joyful to meditative.
A lifelong artist who grew up in a creative home with a photographer father, Saura has followed her passions through design, painting, video, large-scale murals, and site-specific projects. Based near a small village in the Girona province of Spain, she has shown her work worldwide, from Europe to the U.S. to Asia, and is included in numerous private and public collections.

Regina Saura
Regina’ s loose, whimsical brushstrokes and bold washes of color lend her paintings an instinctual, child-like spontaneity that belies her sophisticated command of composition, balance, shape, coloration, and line. Singing with energy and vibrancy, her paintings capture the wonder and magic of life.
