This painting, Ease My Troubles, was inspired by reflections observed in a stream in Scotland. There’s a timeless quality in watching water run—an energy that feels as though the reflection itself is breathing through you—and that sensation became the heart of this work.

What drew me was the simplicity of the subject: the dapple of light, the shimmer, the movement of water. In painting it, I wanted to let that expressiveness emerge naturally through the process.

As always, I worked with palette knife, oil, and wax on linen, using solvents to wipe back layers in a rhythm of ebb and flow—construction and deconstruction—until the surface carried both the energy of the stream and the immediacy of painting itself.
