This painting, If Only You Could See Into Me, speaks to my belief that a painting can look back at you as much as you look at it. It carries within it the presence we often sense in the world around us—boulders, paths, and everyday objects that possess a quiet spirituality, something deeper than our ordinary understanding.

The inspiration lies in that feeling of awe over something as simple as a reflection in a Highland stream—the ripples offering a place for contemplation, for meditation, and for entering a deeper state of consciousness. At the same time, the work celebrates the act of painting itself: the making, the creating. We are, after all, makers.

The surface is built through a very physical process—oil and wax laid on thickly, then scraped, dragged, dripped, and reworked—so that the painting carries a sculptural presence as well as a sense of being. My hope is that it allows the viewer to pause, to reflect, and to become aware of consciousness itself.
