Not Too Late

$24,000

Oil on Linen

63 x 51 inches

This painting, Not Too Late, is one of the more political works I’ve created in recent years, directly referencing the melting ice caps. The inspiration came from recent trips to the Italian Alps and Dolomites—both from climbing the peaks and from the aerial views while flying in and out. Those perspectives revealed just how dramatically the glaciers are retreating, and I wanted the painting to hold both the drama and the somberness of that realization.

Typical of my process, the surface is built with palette knife, layering oil and wax in a way that feels sculptural—almost like icing. The canvas is constructed and drawn across with whites, icy blues, slate grays, and granite tones that echo the landscape of the Alps. Unlike many of my works inspired by lichen or floral pastels, this piece is stark, linear, and architectural. And within it, one of the rare instances of a horizon emerges—a distant horizon that carries with it a fragile sense of hope.
