This painting's titled Shivers Up and Down My Spine, a direct reference to one of Van Morrison's songs, and my kind of incessant need to paint with that on in the background, however the title is also a real sort of like kind of spiritual sort of like kind of echo of this celebration of nature and the sense of autumn or fall in this painting, this impending sort of vacancy of all of these leaves within time clinging and holding on, but it also references the ancient part of Ikebana where space is far more important or just as important as the objects themselves, and so the spatial elements left behind as these leaves drop are constantly creating new compositions and new energies and rhythms within this painting.
