With animated Pop-inspired colors, Melissa Chandon’s paintings push everyday scenes toward the brink of imaginative abstraction. In her vibrant worlds infused with California light, landscapes break down into basic elements—what she calls “core essence”—while shadows and reflections take on a life of their own.

"Form, composition, and color are always foremost in my mind. These foundational elements guide every brushstroke and decision I make in the studio. I’m continually drawn to the structure and rhythm found in the everyday—especially in the deliberate geometry and vibrant palette of tennis and Pickleball courts.

There’s something captivating in the way these spaces are designed: the crisp lines, the symmetry, the unexpected intersections of color. They offer a visual language that is both orderly and expressive. For me, these courts are not just places of play—they are ready-made abstractions, modern arenas of movement and stillness, framed by light, shadow, and hue.
