Willi Siber | 40 Year Retrospective
In honor of Willi Siber's 70th birthday, the Museum Villa Rot in Rot, Germany put together a stunning and expansive retrospective of Siber's practice over the last 40 years, called "Der Weg", or "The Way". In Siber's first retrospective, viewers are able to see his progression from abstracted figure painting, to color field painting, to inclusion of materials like nails and steel pipes. Siber's range is apparent in the vastness of his materials and his from simple oil paint on canvas to increasingly complex iridescent epoxy coating seemingly effortlessly bent steel tubes and complex layered wood.
Willi Siber's life's work is an amazing display of contrast between vivid colors and stark whites, shimmering smooth surfaces against rough splintered textures, and organic curves and sharp geometric shapes. Yet in each piece, we are able to distinctly recognize Siber's artistic touch.
